of Psychosis
A Lacanian Perspective

Three senior training analysts from Groupe Interdisciplinaire Freudien de Recherche et d'Intervention cliniques et culturelles (Gifric) will be presenting on their successful and long-standing clinic established for the treatment of psychotics. The clinic, "The 388" has treated psychotics since 1982 using principles based on Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis.

Presenters:

Willy Apollon, Ph.D. is a practicing psychoanalyst and director of training of staff at the Center for Psychoanalytic Treatment of Young Psychotic Adults (The "388"). He is a training analyst with École freudienne du Québec. He has presented nationally and internationally and has authored numerous articles and books including Traiter la psychose and After Lacan. He is a founding member of Gifric and has served as its President for ten years.

Danielle Bergeron, M.D. is a training analyst and associate professor of psychiatry at University of Laval. She is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. She has numerous publications including the co-authored text Traiter la psychose (with Apollon and Cantin), and After Lacan. her works cover topics ranging from the treatment of psychosis and neurosis to femininity, art and aesthetics. She is Director of the "388" and Director of Training of Psychoanalysis at Gifric's Center for Research and Development.

Lucie Cantin is a trainging analyst, practicing psychoanalyst, and psychologist. She is a professor of Clinical Psychology at University of Laval. She is the editor of the international journal, "Savoir, a Journal of Psychoanalysis and Cultural Analysis". She has presented and published internationally including the texts, Traiter la psychose and After Lacan as well as many others articles in English and in French. She is Assistant Director of the "388" and is Vice President of Gifric.

 

A Clinical Day: Featuring discussion of Lacanian and Freudian psychoanalytic approaches to case material

This day long intensive seminar will focus on three presentations of case material, with the aim of creating stimulating and thoughtful discussion among all participants. The discussion will be led by senior psychoanalysts in the Lacanian tradition who will engage the presenters and invite everyone present to draw out the implications of the case material. The three analysts leading the seminar are Willy Apollon, Danielle Bergeron, and Lucie Cantin, founders of Gifric and training analysts at the École freudienne du Québec. Each has published and lectured widely and are known for their expertise in the innovative psychoanalytic treatment of psychosis.

3:30 pm - 5:00 pm - Presentation: "Reflections on Freud's Case Histories" (Rod Taylor and Michael Johnson, Psychoanalytic Studies Program, Emory University)
